The workshop was held from 7-22 July and was part of the three-year international program Dance Architecture Spatiality, an Erasmus intensive program, conducted by Frédérique Villemur and organized by the Vakalo College of Art & Design (Greece), the University of Derby (UK), L’Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Montpellier (France), the University of Montpellier III Paul Valéry (France) and the Iuav University of Venice (Italy). In 2012 it took place in Athens, in 2013 in Vicenza and Venice and in 2014 in Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert.
The international workshop DAS (Dance, Architecture and Spatiality) united 20 students coming from different universities and colleges (departments of architecture, visual arts and musicology) to experiment with architectural spaces. After two weeks of working together they presented two performances.
In preparation the students used the movement and the voice to explore the monastery and the Abbey Church of Gellone. The voice-performance in the Abbey Church was organized by Els Janssens-Vanmunster. The site specific performance “anti_clockwise” in the monastery courtyard garden, was imagined and staged by the choreographer Patrice Barthès.
