Surface beyond body, Surface, body and architecture,
Spring School | Bauhaus University Weimar, 2023
Tutors: Dr. Luise Nerlich, Manolis Iliakis
Duration: online-classes > January and February 2023 | on site in Weimar > March and April 2023
The course focused on how surface awareness plays a crucial role in space. Students were separated into groups and explored the surface content through multiple aspects in a spatial composition context.
The essence of architectural space was described in three stages: Vertical surfaces, Horizontal surfaces, and Irregular surfaces.
Physical experiments with the body and exercises with all the senses, helped participants to perceive the connection between context and design. If all our senses were activated and trained, we could then benefit by a wealth of experiences. As mentioned, students worked in groups. It was suggested that in each group students from different cultures work together.
