Manolis Iliakis

Manolis Iliakis was born in 1973. He is an Architect-Spatial Designer, MA Architecture & Spatial Culture, Middlesex University. He studied Architecture-Spatial Design, Interior Design and Stage Design in Athens, Germany and London.

His research interests focus on the interdisciplinary practice of architecture and dance during the 20th century; towards this goal, he has collaborated with choreographers and dancers. In parallel with his architectural work he creates “video-dance” films and video-intallations. 

The organization of workshops for architects and dancers is part of his teaching activities. He took part, as a teacher, in the Erasmus program DAS | Dance Architecture Spatiality (2012-14), He has collaborated with the University of Derby (UK), L’Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Montpellier (France), the University of Montpellier III Paul Valéry (France) and the IUAV University of Venice (Italy). He has been lecturing in the FH Potsdam/Berlin. Since 2021 he colaborates with the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. 

Some of his art projects include the participation in the 11th Biennale of Young Artists and in the International Art and Technology Festival Medieterra 02, Action Field Kodra 07, the organization of a workshop for architects and dancers in Isadora Duncan Centre in Athens and the film "Body Wall" (1st Award, Thessaloniki Video Dance Film Festival).

As a freelance architect, he works in architectural projects for commercial and private spaces. In 1999 he founded with Maria Remoundou the Architectural and Design office YOLKSTUDIO. Moreover, with the support of the Danish Institute in Athens, he made a research on Jorn Utzon's Bagsvaerd church, which concluded in an exhibition presented in January 2004.

Recently he participated in the 9th, 8th and 7th Biennale of Young Greek Architects in Benaki Museum (Athens) and was curator with Agnes Couvela for the international design competition MEA 2013 (Mediterranean Sustainable Architecture, mea2013.gr).

He is writing articles about Architecture and Art. (Building Green magazine, Sun and shadow, magazine, greekarchitects.gr and other)

He teaches Architectural Composition, Theory Design and Product Design in Vakalo College of Art and Design and is an Accredited Lecturer of Derby Univesity. He is the Interior Design Pathway Leader in Vakalo College of Art and Design. He is an active member of the International Association of Art (IAA) and the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
